Resisting Fate (MicroRPG by M)
The 200 Word RPG challenge is afoot for 2018, which we'll write more about soon. But for now, here's a free MicroRPG that I wrote but didn't submit!
I ended up going with a different game for a few reasons. For one, I feel like, lacking the context of D&D-like games, this one didn't stand as well on its own. There's no advice or impetus for a story baked in, and it depends on you being sort of familiar with fantasy canon.
That said, as a diceless, improvised D&D-lite, I think it might be a lot of fun to play. I've had this idea for embodying your characters being a main mechanic for quite some time, and I'm glad to put it out into the world.
Another reason I didn't want to submit it was that I couldn't figure out how to slap a safety warning on it without going over the 200 word limit. So here it is: Don't be jerks! Don't touch Fate or invade Fate's personal space. These mechanics are not an excuse to disrespect each other. If it seems like anyone is getting overly frustrated, check in and make sure everyone actually wants to keep playing.
